Car Porn (1)

Purple Rain is an iconic song by Prince, and this project is a tribute to that song and to all items that are purple in color. But since it cost no cents it makes no sense.

1. Immersion
We start with an opening shot complementing the start of the song. In an almost joyous manner 'Purple Rain' starts with a twinkle. In a similar way the light reflects the idea of stars in the night sky.

However, as we will soon find out, the idea of the twinkle in comparison to a fairy tale like start this will soon be contrasted by a more longing undertone.
2. Connection
The second shot represents a bond. As the legs are crossed we can interpret Conflict. The discord of being in love and not being able to be with the one you love.

The gray legs are combined with metallic bolts. This represents the coldness of the world, but even more so the pain that comes with interdependence.
3. Touch
The next shot is a close up of a flowery pattern. Flowers are a symbol of beauty and life. As the petals are touching each other we understand that a Relationship has been established.
4. Entanglement
The entanglement of the cord shows further connection. Further holding on. The cord also represents a lifeline. A connection to the world. A connection and a bond to share feelings and emotions.

However, the cord is also a symbol of Restriction. A cord can be tied. A cord can be used to limit movement. A cord can be a noose.
5. Pain
Prince sings about how he never wanted to cause any sorrow. About how he never wanted to cause any Pain. And yet, pain is an integral part of connection.

We see a wide shot of a pant falling down from the ironing board. This is the moment we also realize the bigger picture of the ironing board. The ironing board is a symbol of domestic life. A symbol of everyday life. A symbol of routine. This pain mentioned here is an observation of loss of a loved one. A divorce, a death and a parting of ways. A break-up in routine.
6. Omen
As if to foreshadow the coming pain, we see a close up of the iron. The partner of the pant. The iron is introduced as a symbol of Control. A symbol of authority.

And thus we as the viewer are made to believe that the iron is the cause of the pant falling down. The iron is the cause of the pain.
7. Memories
The iron is thinking... Reminisces of the past. This is also the longest shot in the video. A long take of the iron on the pant. This is where we get a sense of how important the iron is to the pant. The iron is the one who gives the pant shape.
8. Ejaculation
And then the Climax. The iron reaches release. The most important shot of the video. The iron sparks the peak of its existence and sprays the pant with love.

Here is where we see the iron in its full glory. And a reciporation back to the pant.
9. Flashback
In the aftermath we see the iron caressing the pant. The tender touch of the iron on the pant. A moment of Afterglow and supposed harmony.
10. Departure
However as the song progresses we also see an Unfulfillment. The pant is still wrinkled. The pant is not fully ironed. This can be interpreted in multiple ways. The most common 2 being:

- that the pant is not fully satisfied. The pant is still longing for more.
- that the iron cannot tame the pant. That the caressing is a momentary action, but the iron cannot fully control the pant.

Both interpretations lead to the same conclusion. The pant and the iron cannot be together. They must part ways and the iron takes its leave.
11. Sorrow
Prince mentioned sorrow and pain. And here we see the iron is reflecting on the pain it currently is experiencing. We see that the iron can no longer stream it's steam. The iron is broken. The iron is in Despair.
12. Desolation
The final shot shows an unplugged iron. The iron is no longer connected to the pant and thus the iron is no longer connected to life. The iron is desolate. The iron is alone. The iron is in Solitude.

We as the viewer are left with a sense of melancholy. A sense of longing. A sense of sadness. And the question remains... what had the iron done or what had the iron done to deserve such pain? In any case, the iron has left.
